Project Overview

This charming Southern Belle is the home of the North Carolina Study Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill at 203 Battle Lane.  A 180-year-old historic home built circa 1836, it is known as the “Battle House” after UNC professor William Battle and his family who occupied the home in late 1844.  Since its beginning, the home has been extensively renovated throughout history.

Today it is home to the North Carolina Study Center whose mission is to cultivate Christian life and thought at UNC.  The home will serve the purpose of offering students worship and education at UNC for the pursuit of truth, the formation of the person, and the common good.  It will welcome guests to experience a place to worship, study, rest, and flourish in friendship bringing together the UNC community, especially among campus ministries and churches.

EDK Design Build, a builder who specializes in building and remodeling luxury homes in the Triangle area of North Carolina, was responsible for this most recent, beautiful renovation.   American Cedar & Millwork provided MARVIN Windows & Doors from the Marvin Signature Collection guided by ACM Marvin expert, Carson Riccarrelli.

Marvin Windows & Doors included:

Windows:

Marvin Double Hung G2 Signature Windows from the Ultimate Series with Stone White exterior and primed interior along with low E 3 w/argon glass and 7/8" SDL with spacer bars.  Complemented by oil rubbed bronze hardware, oil rubbed bronze sash lifts and full screens.

Commercial Doors:

Marvin Signature Ultimate Commercial Doors, Stone White exterior, and primed interior with low E 3 w/argon glass, 7/8" SDL with spacer bar

American Cedar & Millwork hopes the home will provide many happy memories and opportunities for growth for the students at UNC Chapel Hill.

About Us

Founders of EDK Design-Build (EDK), Elmer Dixon and Eric Kidd, think of a home as an expression of its owner’s creative side and how the owner goes about life. To be successful at delivering a finished product that lives up to these words, EDK realizes that they must first understand the desires and goals of the owner. “Connecting and listening to the client is key to capture the essence of their vision”, Eric Kidd. “We build a relationship before we build your house”, Elmer Dixon. EDK believes that once the relationship is built, they are able to understand the desires of the client and in turn design and build a dream home that exceeds all expectations. Elmer and Eric’s 75+ years of experience include executive level home building, home renovations and additions. Elmer’s primary role includes client development and managing the administrative side of the business. Eric’s primary role includes field operations and client interactions. EDK’s unified home building knowledge and wisdom has proven time and again to be a winning combination. From design to completion Elmer and Eric are personally involved, giving the client assurance of direct interactions with the company owners during every step of the building process.
