Located on West Edenton Street across from the State Capitol, the historic Labor Building was originally designed in 1885 by architect Gustavus Adolphus Bauer.

Because of its historic designation, all renovation work required close coordination with the State Historic Preservation Office to ensure that materials, colors, and design details met preservation standards.

American Cedar & Millwork was proud to partner with Inland Construction on this significant restoration, which included replacing more than 90 double-hung windows. Each new MARVIN double-hung unit was carefully selected and finished to match the building’s original design — featuring historically accurate profiles and paint colors, with sashes in dark red and frames in a blue-green hue.

Beyond preserving the building’s character, the window replacement delivered modern performance benefits, upgrading from single-pane to energy-efficient double-pane glass and improved frames to enhance comfort, reduce heating and cooling loads, and prevent water infiltration — all while honoring the building’s timeless architectural integrity.
